Leaders of the Women's race

The bunch of the Men's race

A few spare bikes

And some more

And more again

A big day, mixed sun and cloud and a spot of rain. We were there to support the Austerfield Study Centre's birthday bash, the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race and the naming of our observatory the Brian Joynes Observatory. A very busy day, for me certainly, 10am to 6pm of activity, much beyond by physical capability. It took a couple of hours instead of the usual 10 to 15 mins, for me to recover when I got home. A very proud day for me! My thanks to the society for that.
There weren't so many visitors at the time of the women's race but more when the men's race was due. We had both domes open with telescopes trained on the Sun, between cloud banks and rain. We apparently had the local MP, Caroline Flint, in the domes too, though I missed her. There were more than 20 police motorbikes leading the cyclists, women late morning and men late afternoon, the number of spare bikes on leading and following cars must have been in the region of 100, all at something like £4000 each. We can all settle down to the peace and tranquillity of the old village now.
A fine, fine day, with many members there than I'd seen in ages, cakes and bubbly brought by some for a nice little party in the gazebo which nearly blew away.
Present were, Lynn, Elaine, Robin, Sheila, new member David Neville, Sandra, Tony, Paul, Lesley Dave, Wendy, Phil, John Cox, ex-member we hope will rejoin, Max, Maria, Mark, Peter Lloyd, new member, Vic and Pamela.
Brian
